Kite House
Interior Photography, Kite House, McGregor
We were recently commissioned to do an interior photography shoot of the beautiful Kite House in McGregor by the lovely Mira of McGregor Country Getaways. The charming little village of McGregor offers a wide selection of accommodation. This ranges from cute white-washed self catering cottages to luxury bed and breakfast establishments.
The Kite House is a gorgeous self-catering home with a wonderful double volume open plan kitchen and living area. Both the bedroom and living areas open on to a wide patio overlooking the garden and pool. There are spectacular views of the mountains. The beautifully kept garden attracts a variety of birds. The Kite House can accommodate 6 people. The main house has two bedrooms, one of them ensuite. There is a fully contained unit leading off the patio for another two people.
Interior photography is not the easiest form of photography. You always need to be aware of distractions, converging lines and the fall off of light. Shadows cast at different times of the day can also be problematic. It’s also quite a backbreaking job as most of the time, you are working with a tripod. But all of this was made so much more pleasant for us, as we got to stay in the beautiful house. Mira’s very talented mom did the styling and made sure there was a homely touch. We also got to eat all of the yummies afterwards for sundowners!
The garden setting is beautiful and a hive of activity, especially just after sunrise and before sunset when the peacocks and guinea fowl come for a visit. Going through the small garden gate you enter a little communal garden courtyard with a fountain and a couple of benches. It’s a great spot to have your morning coffee.
Below is the master bedroom. Simplistic and beautiful, it leads off on to the patio area be means of glass stackback doors. Shutters open on to the lovely garden, and the cent of roses literally wafts into the room when they are opened.
The ensuite bathroom has both a bath and shower, and again beautiful shuttered windows lead onto the scented rose garden.
The second bedroom would be ideal for the children. It leads onto a little enclosed courtyard with an outside shower. This bedroom leads onto both the living area and the bathroom.
The best part of interior photography has to be photographing the living areas. This is the proverbial soul of the home. The double volume living space with open plan kitchen leading onto the patio and inner courtyard is such a gorgeous space. The glass stackback doors create the feeling that the outdoors and indoors are one. Even when sitting in the living room, it feels as if you are actually outside in the garden.
The patio area is great for relaxing. There is a built in day bed – fabulous for that afternoon reading or napping. The outdoor patio furniture creates the perfect setting for sundowners, and there is a Weber braai should you feel like the good old South African supper.
The kitchen area has everything you would possibly require. All appliances are available as well as an array of tasteful crockery and cutlery.
There is a fully contained outdoor “cottage” leading off the main house. This is ideal should a group of friends want to rent the house. The bathroom overlooks the most gorgeous little courtyard.
The Kite House is situated in a beautiful part of the village. Depending on the time of day, you can either witness sunrise over the pool, or view the mountains change colour as the sun sets. It is ideally situated for taking a stroll around the village or if you’d like to go for a walk along the farm roads.
