Elgin Farm Wedding
Laurian & Dagon
Laurian and Dagon’s DIY Elgin farm wedding was a feast to photograph. There was such amazing attention to detail. The chilled vibe and happy celebration is one we’ll remember for a while!
THE SETTING FOR LAURIAN & DAGON’S ELGIN FARM WEDDING
We had taken a drive to the Elgin family farm the week before to do a photo scout. Although we got an idea of where everything would be set up, nothing could prepare us for what we were to see on the wedding day. The amount of love, time and effort that went into this gorgeous DIY Elgin farm wedding was phenomenal!
The farm was literally transformed. Even the barbed wire fence looked gorgeous. There were hundreds of little material ties leading guests up to the wedding ceremony area. As Cape Town wedding photographers we get to shoot in so many beautiful wedding venues. From Cape Dutch manor homes, to venues nestled among the vineyards, even open air venues along the coast. But there is something exciting about being witness to an ordinary “home” being transformed into something magical. And Laurian and Dagon’s Elgin farm wedding was just this – MAGICAL!
THE WEDDING DAY
Everything happened at the gorgeous Lilybank in Elgin. The ceremony took place under a big oak tree right in the corner of the property. Laurian was driven across the field in an old family heirloom, a Bentley. Hay bales were laid out in the shape of a spiral with the couple right in the centre. It certainly was a special ceremony. The two dads conducted it – a surprise to everyone!
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed some refreshing drinks while we took the family photos. Afterwards everyone moved down to the lawn area. Guests received beautiful picnic baskets. The rest of the afternoon saw everyone playing lawn games and just generally chilling. It was a perfect summers afternoon.
It was our first time working alongside or should we say “below” a drone. Have a look at this clip to see the end result.
We snuck off for the couple shoot when the light was softer. Afterwards it was time for another “mini reception.” In true South African style, the fires were smoking away. The second meal for the day was a traditional boerewors braai. After speeches, guests partied away, posed for shots at the photo booth, and roasted marshmallows.
Thank you, Laurian and Dagon, for picking us to photograph your beautiful Elgin Farm wedding. We so enjoyed being part of your special day.
