An Elgin River Lodge wedding that very nearly never happened! But my oh my, are we happy that it went ahead!

AN ALMOST NOT ELGIN RIVER LODGE WEDDING!

One would think that by September Spring may have been in the air. But the weather gods had other plans. Just a week before Torey & Dewald’s wedding, the Western Cape was hit by a monstrous storm. I don’t think as Cape Town wedding photographers we’ve ever seen anything like this! Heavy downpours on Sunday and Monday caused several rivers to burst their banks.  Roads were destroyed and farmlands and homes completely flooded. This all happened only 5 days before Torey and Dewald’s wedding day.

The venue and some of the accommodation was totally flooded. Once the waters started to recede, everything was covered in thick river slick.  This was definitely not conducive to hosting a wedding. The team from the lodge worked tirelessly around the clock.  By the time Torey, Dewald and their guests made an appearance, mop up operations were complete.  Had you not seen the footage, you would never have believed what the lodge looked like. The only tell tale clues left, the muddy verges.

MORE RAIN

There’s an old saying: “It never rains, but it pours.” On the day of Torey & Dewald’s Elgin River Lodge wedding, there was more rain. Their outdoor ceremony and picnic on the river banks was simply not going to happen. These two amazing souls took it in their stride. They embraced the weather. They chose to focus on what was really important. Getting to marry your best friend with your nearest and dearest by your side.

The warm, cozy fires, the love all around and the hot dance floor moves all added to the fabulous vibe on this incredible Elgin River Lodge wedding day. Throw in a bride who kicks off her shoes and gets the bottom of her dress filthy, a groom who absolutely adores her, and a bunch of really cool guests, and you have a winning wedding recipe!

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate this stunning riverside venue. There is ample accommodation for the couple and their guests.  The venue can be booked out exclusively for a wedding. It’s such a beautiful natural setting in the heart of the Elgin valley.

Torey & Dewald, the moment we met you at the coffee shop, we knew your wedding would be special. It most certainly did not disappoint. Thank you for trusting us with your precious moments. We hope that our photos keep the memories alive for you!
