Cape Town Muslim Wedding
Bashiera & Rameez
This Cape Town Muslim wedding photographed over two beautiful days culminated in an evening reception at the Islamia Banqueting Hall. This was Bashiera & Rameez’s wedding celebration.
How to you condense 17 hours of shooting, 600 guests, a drop dead gorgeous couple and hundreds of moments into only one blog post? Not easily. Shooting a Muslim wedding always yields so many images. The days are comprised of so many facets. Things happen at a super quick pace and you have to be ready for moments as they unfold.
CAPE TOWN MUSLIM WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, we’d been familiar with shooting Western weddings. I will never forget the first time we documented a Cape Town Muslim wedding. That was more than 10 years ago already. We were literally shattered at the end of the day. Even an abundance of koeksisters and samosas couldn’t replenish the waning energy. But what I do remember was that we were on such a high when we left. It felt as if we’d captured a wedding in a faraway exotic destination. Thick carpeted mosques, spices, flavours, tradition and beautiful outfits. We also felt so honoured to have been welcomed into the lives of people who hold family ties and values so close at heart. And how wonderful to still be part of those very people’s circles as we cover the weddings of friends and family.
Bashiera and Rameez’s Cape Town Muslim wedding celebrations started with the Mehndi Evening. A colourful affair and an exchange of gifts. We love the pre-wedding celebrations and all of the traditions associated with it.
THE WEDDING DAY
On the wedding day while preparations were underway at the Islamia Banqueting Hall, we covered the Nikkah ceremony in the morning. Downstairs is where the serious business happens, although this Nikkah ceremony had the groom smiling a lot! Whist upstairs, there are usually quite a few emotional moments. This is the time when a mother gives off her daughter in marriage, and there are always some tears (including the photographer)
After the ceremony the bridal couple changed into their wedding outfits for the evening reception. My oh my, Bashiera, you were just the most beautiful bride. It’s just not work when you have gorgeous people in front of your lenses. The two of you are just perfect together, and it shows.
The evening reception at the Islamia Banqueting Hall was a wonderful union of two families. The day ended with a few more tears as Bashiera left her home to start of this wonderful new chapter in her life.
Bashiera and Rameez, thank you for choosing us to document your most special day. May you always share the same tender moments that you did on your wedding day.
